What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a non-invasive treatment used to reduce wrinkles, while simultaneously restoring volume and plumpness to targeted areas of the face. Often used for facial rejuvenation, dermal fillers restore natural facial contours of areas prone to volume loss during the natural ageing process, including the lips, brows, temples and jawline. Additionally, dermal fillers are becoming an increasingly popular treatment for enhancing one’s youth by augmenting high cheek bones and lips.

How do dermal fillers work?

As we age, we start to lose volume in certain areas of the face which can make us look tired and sunken. This is caused by the body’s decreased ability to produce collagen and elastin.

Unlike wrinkles which require muscle relaxants to soften them, facial volume and folds require a dermal filler to help re-volumize and hydrate the area. Made from a natural sugar already present in the human body, our dermal face fillers are an affordable way to replicate the function of this naturally occurring substance and can restore fullness and volume in numerous facial areas.

When will I see the results and is there any downtime?

Results are immediate and there is no downtime, allowing you to resume your normal day-to-day activities immediately following the procedure.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers are manufactured using proprietary Hylacross Technology, which slows the metabolism to deliver long-lasting and premium quality results. Dermal fillers come in varying viscosities and thicknesses to ensure there is an appropriate product to suit all facial areas and personal preference. Depending on skin type, facial area and product, dermal fillers can last anywhere from 1-2 years. Please consult your medical professional for a more detailed analysis.

I am booked in for cosmetic injections. Do I need to do anything beforehand?

Avoid vigorous physical activity or any intakes of alcohol for 24 hours prior to your treatment as this increases the risk of bruising. Aspirin and Vitamin E should not be taken one week before the treatment.

What does a dermal filler treatment involve?

A time effective and non-surgical procedure, dermal fillers generally take no longer than 30 minutes and are administered through an injection by a trained medical professional. Please be aware that there may be minor discomfort during the administration of dermal fillers, however, this varies from person to person and depends on the condition of one’s skin, the product being used and the area(s) being treated. Some dermal filler products contain anaesthetic, which has been shown to increase client comfort. Following treatment, you should be able to resume normal activities immediately.

How are dermal fillers used in the lip area?

Dermal fillers can be used for either lip rejuvenation or enhancement. They can be used to enhance lip shape, increase volume, give border definition and create a defined Cupid’s bow, resulting in a youthful appearance that looks and feels natural.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

The aim is not to eliminate every minor line, but to prevent those lines from deepening. Over time, your skin’s natural ability to protect itself reduces and muscle contractions and movement leave their mark. Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for expression. As a result, fine lines are prevented from worsening and existing lines are softened.

Anti-wrinkle injections are quick, affordable and an extremely effective treatment to help reduce and prevent wrinkle formation.

Are there any side effects after having dermal fillers?

The most common side effects occur within 24 hours or immediately post treatment. These include: swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness.

Immediate side effects usually disappear within the first few days following treatment. However, depending on the type of dermal filler used, it may take up to two weeks. All our injectors are available for follow-up consultations if you have any concerns, as we understand that dermal filler aftercare is vital.

If you are interested in a lip filler treatment and suffer from cold sores, there is an increased chance of an outbreak following your procedure. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and can be treated with antiviral medication. It is advisable to take these one week prior to treatment if you suffer from regular outbreaks and the medication can be purchased from your local pharmacy.
